OLL ART is dedicated to expanding the creative boundaries of light as a medium. Through in-depth collaborations with architects and artists worldwide, it liberates light from mere functionality, transforming it into an interactive artistic force and an emotional presence. In its collaboration with Ma Yansong, founding partner of MAD Architects, light becomes the connective tissue between architecture, installation, and public experience—jointly exploring the expressive potential of light within urban and cultural contexts.

At the 19th Venice Architecture Biennale, OLL ART and Ma Yansong co-created the installation An Oil Paper Umbrella. Using traditional Chinese oil paper as a medium and SDL intelligent spectral technology as its core, the work forms a floating pavilion of light. Technology is applied in reverse to generate a highly expressive chromatic lighting system, reinterpreting Eastern aesthetics within a global artistic discourse.

During Shanghai Design Week 2025, OLL ART and Ma Yansong joined forces again to present The Sun, an inflatable architectural structure enclosing a dynamic light core. The installation creates an open, tiered public plaza where light transcends visual spectacle—becoming a tangible, experiential vessel of time and emotion, redefining the boundaries between exhibition space and public realm.

At the 2025 Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism, the OLL ART team infused Ma Yansong’s inflatable installation Breathing Cells with rhythmic light and mist. The structure’s skin senses and modulates light and temperature, while the integrated light-fog system interacts with its surroundings. More than an installation, it represents an exploration of future architecture as a “living interface.”
